It was common for masters to use "cupbearers" (servants) as ganymedes. The apprentice to a master or aristocratic nobles and their minions (pages) often served as ganymedes. Thus in the painting above, the page is lacing up his lord's doublet and breeches (the page's elbow is adjacent to Alberti's codpiece).
